The rugged coastline of Madeira, situated just off the north west coast of Africa, created a dramatic setting for the new Marriott hotel and residences, with 180 degree views down to the seas below. The natural topography of the site created different character zone sto the site with small rivers and valleys providing shelter for the residences.

The hotel was positioned at a key central location of the site with open plaza squares to the coastal side allowing clear views out across the ocean. The unique experience of walking along the natural rocky coastline was conserved and celebrated with a sensitively constructed ‘sea pool’ was built among the existing rocks to create a safe saltwater swimming pool experience for guests.
